Schilke M6.0

Just wondering if anybody here uses one of these pieces? I got one a few weeks ago and have used it now and liked it. I used a 60 years ago and this seems to be the new and improved model. Thanks for any comments.

Yes, it's a very good...under the radar, in today's market where everyone is after a Griego or Black...bass mouthpiece. Plenty of depth, but not a shot glass; great clarity. IMO very similar to a Hammond 21BL.

Note that the M6.0 is the "medium" depth cup. There is also a D6.0 (deep cup). I think the D is like the old 60 (which was too big for me). Maybe the M6.0 would work for me. But I have my Doug Elliott 114/L/L7 which is great for me. When I haven't played bass in a while I go to a Marcinkiewicz GR.

All right, now, I don't see "7" backbores listed on the DE website. (haven't seen a 6 either there's the 6E (gotta get one of those) but no a plain "6")

7, 8, and 9 were the original large shanks (small to large). 7 wasn't very popular and is not regularly offered, although I'm sure Doug would make you one for a price. I was finding the 8 a little too open and went to the 7. 6 was a Euro shank.

So is a M6.0 basically a Schilke 60 rim on a 59 cup and body?

I don't know the exact specs but upon visual inspection the cup on the M6.0 looks bigger than the 59.

Bigger then a 59 but smaller then a 60. I can dig. So like a Doug Elliott L type cup.
I have a custom Schilke Dennis Bubert mouthpiece made in the 80's that's essentially a Schilke 60 rim on a 59 cup and shank. I dug it but I felt like the cup was a little small for the playing I do. A M6.0 sounds like something I might like!
For people that have tried the M6.0 and a Hammond 21BL which one did you like more?

I found, for me, that the the Hammond has a slightly more comfortable curvature to the rim, and the shaping of cup...for my embouchure.. supported a better centering of my air flow. The more centered air flow (blowing straight line thru the bore) enabled me to play softer passages with more certainty. You have to be careful with these assessments because everyone's embouchure is different, and that's largely where the rubber meets the road. I have now switched to 20BL for a bit more efficiency.

I play on one, mostly community symphonic work. It's got a slightly wider rim and shallower cup than the the 60, which I used to play but got to be too much work for me! I also have a 59 that I use for community concert band and brass ensemble work and is much easier to play longer periods of time on. I'm retired now but still play. I'll look to upgrade to a Doug Elliott piece later.
