Hey all,
I've got a few message over the last few days about trouble finding out how to upload pictures directly to the forum. I went ahead and made a video and posted it in another thread but I thought I'd put it here just for reference so it was easy to find.

Just joined. This is a much easier way to post pictures than back on the old forum. Thanks!

My problem was (and still is) with trying to upload an avatar. I never can get the dimensions nor the file size right. I've tried maybe a dozen online editors, none of which worked. Sooo... still no avatar. Any suggestions?

I think you can use Microsoft Picture Editor to specify pixel size. May need a few trial and error iterations.
I used Corel Photo Editor for mine (but it's not free).

I wasn't able to do it. Can I upload from imgur? I tried every option using imgur and keep getting "[color=#FF0000]The URL you specified is invalid."

For imgur pictures, you'll have to get the right URL for the picture (it should end in .jpg) and put it in the img brackets.
You can see what I did below if you quote this post.

I just did that, and get "! Please enter a URL." I tried the actual suffix jpg?2 and also removed the end to make it just jpg. Same error message with both. :x

Make sure you are right clicking on the image to get a URL with "copy image address."

I just now did it the latest way you suggested and got the familiar "[color=#FF0000]The URL you specified is invalid.", so I added the bracketed img and /img, and I got the equally familiar "! Please enter a URL." :idk:

It should look like this, but with brackets on the outside as well. Only taken out so you can see the formatting-

Understood. It's just not working for me. I'll try taking some more pictures and see if I can upload from a jpg file in my computer, but not now. This was the first way I tried, but the file size was too big. In the meantime the ubiquitous pale blue question mark in a light grey square will have to do. THANK YOU for your help, Burgerbob, and I'll either have an avatar, or I'll post about it again.

I used this website the other day and it worked flawlessly. Avatar images cannot be larger than 200x200.

Thanks, HawaiiTromboneGuy. This was one of the websites I used, but I couldn't get the file size below 46kb, and 24 is max for the avatar. How would I get this image, or any image, for that matter, down to the limit?

If it's the right pixel size try reducing the color depth. You don't need 2 million colors. For a cartoon, often 256 color depth is plenty. For a photo, look at some intermediate color depth.

What is really annoying is that doing a search for this information brings up nothing!

Fact is that one unfortunately cannot post pictures to this forum.
One can only post links to photos held elsewhere.
The big disadvantage is that once the external photos get deleted or move, the links will no longer work here and the pictures disappear.

You can add them as attachments. I think that will upload to this site. <ATTACHMENT filename="55DE0CE2-89DE-4FC9-AFE3-89B4B395C7B6.jpeg" index="0">[attachment=0]55DE0CE2-89DE-4FC9-AFE3-89B4B395C7B6.jpeg</ATTACHMENT>

<B>Not true.</B> You can easily Upload ("Attach") photos from your own files (on computer or phone).
Instructions have been posted elsewhere - it's pretty easy.
I suggest that before attaching, you "resize" your photos to fewer pixels for faster uploading and downloading.

One quick point that you may have missed: To upload pictures you need to be in the Full Editor & Review. The pictures can be uploaded from a tab at the bottom of the view.

Your "fact" is 100% the opposite of the truth. Watch as I refute it:
<ATTACHMENT filename="1627524922029.jpg" index="0">[attachment=0]1627524922029.jpg</ATTACHMENT>
You can see that it's an internally held file because the photo data is shown below the photo.

Hello,
Well, It appears that one CAN attach pictures now!!
But, that has not been the case in the past. The lack of pictures throughout most previous posts is a good indication that this is is likely a recent feature.
But great anyway!
For those who are still wondering, I have attached a screen shot:
Regards
Bernt

You need 3 approved posts to be able to post pictures and Personal Message other members. Also, the member E-mail is hidden until you have 3 approved posts. Sorry for this, but we needed it to control 'bots and spam.

This is my second post, so if it gets approved, I'm one step away from being able to post and see pictures. Will that also be when I'm allowed to my signature block or is that still a bit away?

I did not see reference to it elsewhere, but I guess one needs to also be approved first before being permitted to view pictures too?

I believe once you’ve been vetted with three approved posts, then you’ll be able to view photos.

Does this three post requirement also apply to being able to search the forums?

I was just looking around to ask the same thing. Either this is the case or I'm missing something.

I'm not able to post photos. It appears this is a longstanding problem. Is there a fix in the works, or should you maybe just remove the picture posting feature?

We have a limit on the number of pictures we can store online. It's above my pay grade to do anything to increase our storage. A major part of the problem may be the large number of pictures associated with Classified Ads. I tried removing some ads from early in the Chat, but my capability is limited to removing one ad at a time, which means a crippling amount of time for an unknown effect on pictures.
You can always post pictures that have a different home on line using IMG tags:
