48h Connstellation, 1972, Abilene, Rseries
BEFORE YOU GO ICK, ABILENE, please note that the 48h was the top of the line small bore horn, and this one is not inferior in any way to the previous year Elkhart instruments. The workmanship is great, and this one plays as well as the Elkharts. There is probably less than a year between this one and an Elkhart horn. It has all the brace gussets that it's supposed to have. The slide is original to the horn. (A lot of 48h slides get pilfered because they work on a lot of other small bore Conns). An Elkhart in this condition would be twice the price.
I won't make excuses for it, just to say it's a great playing classic in great condition. No dents, no evidence of repair, no wear on the slide. Looks new from 6 feet away. Comes with original Connstellation case and mouthpiece. $700 + shipping.

I played a 1976 Abilene 5H. Great horn, I would put it up against any .500 bore horn.
I also played a 1979 Abilene 88H. Great horn, great sound, not inferior in any way.
Base a horn on how it plays, not where it was made.

Reduced to $600. Last reduction. After this I'll just keep this one too. Too nice a horn to give away.

Man, these are great horns and this is a terrific deal! Someone should grab it so I don't have to!
These horns are also really beautiful. But honestly, Matt, your photos don't show its beauty at all. The lighting is just not good enough. You should take this outdoors (in the shade) and do another photo shoot. Green leafy stuff in the background and birds chirping... Yeah.

Yeah, Tom, thanks for the plug. I'm just not the horn porn photographer, but I think the big problem is that I don't have a cat to pose.
My wife is a photographer, but I hate to ask her to participate in perpetuating my bad habits. :shuffle:
