D slide for single rotor

Has anyone ever made a dedicated D slide for their single rotor bass? Not a pull to D, but an actual D slide.

Would this be more of a hinderance than a help? Low B in 4th would be nice but...

What are you going to do for an Eb below the staff?

There have been E attachments, but it seems that F has more utility.

Yeah, I'd kinda miss Eb. There's been a few experiments with E and Eb attachments, but F remains the standard.

There is a player in Boston, primarily a tenor player, who doubles very well on bass trombone with a single valve Bach tuned to flat E. He's got it set up so that low B is in standard 7th position. I think this puts E-flat in standard 2nd or thereabouts.

I've only seen a D attachment a few times, and it was always on a double valve independent, with F on the first valve. Might have been the same horn that keeps floating around. The attachment literally bends around the main tuning slide to the other side of the horn.

Eb i think is the last practical pitch for a single rotor horn.

A Yamaha attachment slide I have fits the F-attachement of a Bach 50 I own. It can not be inserted more than about one centimeter. With that slide the attachmen is tuned to Eb. I have not had any reason to use that combo yet.

I had a 70h that I made an Eb slide for. You'd have to be pretty committed to make it work as a replacement for a double valve. All Cs/Fs and Bs/Es are in 6th and 7th respectively. But it weighs so much less and you only have one set of valve positions to keep track of.

But since it's just a slide you can always put the other back in.

I don’t know if I could find use for a trigger set to not-F in my usual playing. Maybe E. It’d feel like reinventing the wheel. As it is double trigger stuff is rare for me and alternate positions even take out some of that. I used to play an independent bass and I tuned to Bb/F/Eb/C-ish. I think I liked having a G att more though. YMMV

I like having low Bb in T3 too much in too many keys to go all the way to an Eb tuning on a single valve. I could probably live with E tuning, though, and on an independent bass something approximating Bb/E/G/D could be useful. That gives you the choice of that Bb in T2 or t5 (Or Tt5 if you're feeling silly).

I actually have made one.

I was late to the party checking out a bass trombone at school, and got a single-rotor Holton. A piece in the symphony had all three players glissing from pedal Bb to low D.

I went to the hardware store, got some telescoping tubing and solder, and cooked some extensions on my gas stove.

I've had the opportunity to use an Edwards Eb tuning slide on my 3047AFR for 2 different choir concerts when the music has called for low B's. It's been a while since I've played around with it, but I'm pretty sure I was able to tune the attachment to D with the tuning slide pulled almost all the way out (the legs are super long).
