So, we definitely need to tighten things up a bit. I'm deleting multiple accounts for spamming. I don't think we need to do admin account approval. What else can we implement quickly and easily?

We should probably do the Google captchas instead of the extraordinarily simple text images we currently have. Heck, I could write a bot to bypass the one we currently have up!
There's also a list of commonly banned IPs that we can implement. I can't do those today though but I can get them up tomorrow. The list is on the wikimedia information though. So the format is different but I think it should be easy enough to pull over to phpBB

I changed the registration function back to the short answer questions we used last time to kill Spam.
Bots can do a lot, but they don't know brass instrument history!

Thanks! We have to approve those now right?

Works same way as before -- if the registrant answers correctly, they're allowed to confirm account and post.

Oh cool, I understand now. That should be pretty handy. That might be better than Google anyway. Did you have a list of the questions? I know I was almost fooled by the one on the tubenet

What was the first name of the founder of the C.G. Conn corporation?
What is the last name of the founder the Vincent Bach brass instrument company?
Dag. I couldn't answer the Conn one. Do we need two?
Hah I was thinking the same thing. Maybe asking something about a slide position? That'd be really hard for a bot to answer

Hard for a beginner, too.
Maybe something as general as "what instrument is TromboneChat for?"

I like that. Or even"this site" so that the bot would have a word to guess inside the question.

I thought of that, too, but thought my question would be less obvious for a bot.

it's not an exam...you're allowed to google...and these were the questions from the old site, almost verbatim.
