Hey All -
Trying to date a 3B from the 70’s by its case. ( serial number in question )
When did King switch from the green interior where the bell laid flat and was secured by the 2 swivel plastic pieces to the blue interior where the bell inserted vertically like the older vintage style cases?
It would have been sometime in the early ‘70’s I think.
Thanks
B

I had gotten a 3B Silversonic in 1971. The case had the green interior.

I have a 3B-F 464XXX in which the bell section sits vertically in its own compartment, rectangular case with no bell "swell" on the outside and green lining on the inside. From the charts I find it is 1971 or 1972. Could it be the straight horns came in flat cases with the toggles, and F horns came in cases like mine? FWIW, my 509XXX 4B-F from 73-74 era is in a blue lined case. BTW I bought some clear acrylic and can make a set of toggles for anybody whose originals have broken.

Looks like very early 70’s when King made the interior color and design change. Maybe’71 - ‘72.
Thanks for all of your input.

As I noted, my 1967 King 3B Silversonic case is very blue. :good:

Right. I think the green side mount was a brief interruption in the design. Before and after was blue ( or red ) with vertical bell storage.
