It's a slightly heavier cup, marked to distinguish it from previous ones. If I changed the design, it has a star - cups from F and deeper. I didn't feel like the shallower cups would benefit so they didn't change.

I sometimes make small design changes if it makes an improvement in how my mouthpieces play. That's one of the reasons you will see different eras of my mouthpieces marked differently.

Not in the DE, JK, nor Curry systems. In all you can easily order wider inner rim sizes with shallower cups. That wider/deeper thing probably started with Bach but is not the only way to go.

I think you're mixing up what Doug means when he says "shallow." Doug's mouthpieces have progressively longer shanks the more shallow the cup. Therefore, shallow cups have less overall location to put additional mass because they have a longer shank. The overall mouthpiece is the same length, just that the ratio changes. So any reference to width (which I didn't notice here?) would be that the outer width would be greater at certain locations (thus the additional mass).

I don't think he meant anything rude by it, he's probably coming from his own understanding of things. Attacking him doesn't help.

So far all of the * cups I've tried have been fantastic. I've liked all of the * cups better than the previous design!

Please clarify and expound. What did you like better, what do you think was improved/different, etc. Anything you can provide would be appreciated.

That reminds me of a system that used to be applied to late 19th century gun designs in the UK. They had would go by "Marks" to indicate the version, and a * after the Mark number meant it had additional changes done to it.

So you'd see Mk.I, Mk.I*, Mk.I**, Mk.II, Mk.II*, and so forth.

I guess I should also mention that Doug never mentioned wider, and that for custom mouthpieces, wider definitely does not imply deeper. Pretty much every custom maker has multiple widths with the same depth, and vice versa.
