The article from the NY Times said he was in New Orleans. Ellis was a jazz pianist and of course the father of Wynton, Delfeayo and Bradford among others.

I'm not sure if it's Corona Virus related, but word is out that Bucky Pizzarelli also passed yesterday (April 1).

Two jazz greats in one day. :(

RIP Ellis. Hurts even more as I'm a jazz pianist as well.

I got to meet him a few years ago when he was a guest artist with my big band. He played a great show with us on one fairly short rehearsal. Very sorry to to hear this.

I also had a chance to see Mr. Marsalis some 10 years or so ago at a jazz festival in NC. He played a great set.

This virus plays no favorites. Be careful out there.
