Hello Chattle!
Courtois had a lot of instruments made by B&S in Germany ever since they moved there from France. Courtois was having their great independent bass trombone, the AC502, made in Germany by B&S. This is one such AC502, but stamped Gerhard Baier. Summerhays Music in Salt Lake City, Utah had a deal with them to stamp them with the Gerhard Baier stamp as a marketing thing. It's not a stencil - it's the real deal. Just a different stamp.
It's a good bass trombone with great build quality. The slide is stripped of lacquer but polished. There is some small evidence of dent removal from the bell. Mechanically it's outstanding with great valves and excellent compression.
For those who don't know: Courtois has the AC420 series which is modeled on the Bach 42. They also have the 502 series which is modeled after the Bach 50. I've always felt that Courtois took fantastic design inspiration from Bach but with better and more consistent build quality. Maybe that's the German B&S connection. I don't know. But I've owned a lot of Courtois and have liked all of them.
Pictures tell the rest of the tale.

Thanks!

Huh. Never noticed the one piece nickel neck pipe/tuning slide receiver on the 502's. Interesting!

These are good horns. I have too many basses right now, so if someone is looking for a quality independent bass, contact me. And have a look at my other ads, or contact me if you're looking for something specifically. I have way too many horns right now.

Bump time. I'm also looking for an excellent alto with a valve that's not a 36H. If you have something, let email me, please!
