The only thing better than a new trombone...

...Is a free trombone! I was gifted an old valve trombone from a community member. It had a few broken solder joints and the valves and slides were all frozen, but it was in overall good shape. I fixed the broken joints, and cleaned up the valves, replaced the felts and springs, and cleaned and lubed all the slides. I haven’t played it to a tuner yet, but I have a hunch it’s A439. There’s no marks at all to it, but it’s definitely an oldie. All pieces are stamped “45”. Anybody recognize it? My guess is it’s probably just a stencil, maybe outta the Monkey Wards catalog or something. Fun to play! A small shank mouthpiece barely fits in the receiver. Pics below:

Looks like that might take an alto horn shank.

Looks like an Eb to me. I have a Conn Eb alto that also takes an alto horn shank. I can make shanks that size for my mouthpieces.

It’s definitely in Bb, not Eb. I’ve played enough alto to know the difference!

A very similar current production horn from India:

The short model valve 'bones on the Amati website look like they have standard length bell sections, but earlier production looks to have had a short bell (based on what I see on horn-u-copia.net)

Was Amati ever in Markneukirchen? I thought they were always in Kraslice.

They're less than 20 km apart; same region but a different country... :good:
