I have a pair of yellow brass outer slide tubes pulled from a 1960’s Elkhart Conn 18H. The inside diameter is .535 inch and the tubes are 27 inches long. These tubes can be mated with many .484, .485 and.490 bore inner slides that have a stocking outside diameter of .521 to .523 inch. Common models that are compatible are Conn 4H, 12H, 14H, 18H, King 605, and many Olds and Reynolds slides.

The tubes have no corrosion and have gone through my professional slide preparation cycle: dents removed, annealed, tempered with rolling tools, straightened and buffed inside and out. These tubes are dent-free, dead straight and ready to install. I prepared these for a customer and then he decided to go with a different slide set-up. The gauge on these tubes is thicker than many modern outer slide tubes…..Elkhart Conn quality!

I normally keep extra slide tubes like this in my shop but I rarely rebuild trombones of this bore size. Since they are prepped and ready, I would rather see someone use them.

Retail price for a pair of new tubes (of thinner gauge) like this would be $80-$90, not including shipping.

I’ll sell this set for $35 plus $15 shipping/handling.

Bump......still available. Thought I had them sold a couple of times. Turned out to be the wrong size for both folks.

If you have one of those old Conn Directors with a .485 bore slide, these are a perfect match for your horn. Check your outer slides for red rot. If you have corrosion spots, replace your outer tubes with these and get another 60-70 years of play from your horn! Price for the pair is still $35 plus $15 shipping/handling.

Will they fit a 2B?

Well?!? The inside diameter on these tubes is about .535" + a few ten thousandths. The outside diameter of the King 2B inner tube stockings (even though the 2B is a dual-bore, it is designed to take the same outer tubes on upper and lower slide) is .519". That's a 16/1000 difference. My experience has been that when you get above a 14/1000 difference, the trombone loses focus because there is loss of air compression.

Will it fit and will the slide move well? Yes. Will it play well? Could go either way.

Rrova, looks like you are in DC. I'm in nearby Frederick, MD. PM me and let's talk.

These outer slide tubes are still available. Great price for quality parts. They will only work on very specific models.....King 605, Conn 4H, 12H, 14H, 18H and probably a few more Conn models that have the .484 bore. I tried them on a King 2B and they are slightly too big. They are too small for most .500 bore trombones.
