Alright, who are some of your top funk trombonists to listen to - either for soloing or horn section work? And why? Big names as well as more unknown gems.

I'll get us started with some obvious ones to get them out of the way 8-) :

Fred Wesley

Trombone Shorty

Dennis Rollins

Big Sam

Greg Boyer. I’d like to see what he’s been up to lately, he has played with George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Prince, Larry Graham and a lot more. I think he’s in the DC area?

Out of Boston? I was just thinking about him this morning! I’ve played some of his Otis Grove collaboration tracks live.

Yep. Brian is the real deal, a great Wayne Henderson disciple that knows the language inside and out. has played with all the greats.

Check out Akashic Record and the BT-ALC Big Band - funk big band for real.
