How to Improvise and Ready, Aim, Improvise.
Any thoughts, opinions, experience with these? Is one better than the other?

Both are really good books. I used "Ready, Aim, Improvise" for college level improvisation classes as a textbook, but at the time I wanted to use "How To Improvise" and it was out of print.
Both books go over Crook's suggestions for practicing improvisation with a specific goal and a process by which you can aim your practice at that specific target. "How To Improvise" is mostly focused on this specific approach where "Ready, Aim, Improvise" has more general information about music theory and jazz history topics.
Which book I'd recommend depends a bit on what you're hoping to get. Both are very good and you won't run out of things to draw from either. Both are also very easy to use for beginners and experts, they both cover the process Crook uses very well.
