Sadly you may well be correct there :idk:

We have some of the best trombone players in the world that don't get the time of day in the USA.

Oh well let's keep them our secret eh? :shuffle: :good:

Bellend & Fidbone,

Fret not. I didn't comment on this wonderful performance on TromboneChat (Why flog it here?) – but did immediately forward it to about 40 trombonists and other big band players and fans. Many loved it. Our music is clearly alive in Germany.

Günter Bollman is a fine player and deserves to be heard worldwide! :good:

It's hard to get busy people to watch a video that is over an hour long. And in the first 7 minutes I watched there was actually very little of Günter playing.

I think it's unfair to trash Americans as an explanation, although we have so many horrible people here I suppose it could be true. Americans can be very provincial.

But clearly people are listening, so I hope you're feeling more heard. :)

Between hr-BigBand and WDR, Germany is doing the world a great service of promoting jazz orchestra music. I love it!

Absolutely! I wish the wealthiest country on earth could do the same, but apparently we are not very good at sanity these days. But boy is Germany doing a great job!

That's some next level full-band legato playing in the opening number!

Don't forget the NDR and SWR bigbands and the big number of not-fulltime bigbands. Also the Bundeswehr/Army has a very good big band.

And apart from that there are more than 100 fulltime orchestras, including lots of opera houses, lots of army and police orchestras etc.

It may not all be good here in Germany, but our cultural landscape continues to be fantastic compared to many other countries.

And that recording is just great!!

As an American some of my favorite recordings and artists are from places other than America. Hate to dredge up a 5 year quote but jeez.

Today the Trump administration announced that it would withdraw from UNESCO, the United Nations cultural organization.

“Continued involvement in UNESCO is not in the national interest of the United States,” said Tammy Bruce, a State Department spokeswoman, accusing the organization of promoting “divisive social and cultural causes” and of maintaining an “outsized focus on the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals, a globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy.”

As a patriotic American, I must follow the lead of my government, and refuse to acknowledge the quality of (or even listen to) music made by foreigners. That would be incompatible with "America First!" The only good music is made by American citizens.

Well, even though I can't listen to the Beatles anymore, thank goodness we still have the music of Yoko Ono!

Who needs culture and education anyway?
