The seller says the serial number on this horn is HH GA 970063, which means it was made in 1979. Is this an undesirable “Abilene” horn? The price seems reasonable.

Even Abilenes can be highly playable. Sight unseen, $1000 seems reasonable, as long as everything is in good condition. It's not a collector, but it may be a good player. You won't know until it's in your hands.

A good conn is a good conn regardless of when or where it was made, if the price is right and you want it then buy it

You won't know till you try it. The perils of buying online.

Fortunately for dxhall, this one is on CraigsList, so he can probably bring his mouthpiece and give it a brief trial blow before he lays out his $$.

As always, caveat emptor!
