I understand when companies get bought certain models need to go but.....
I just bought a Bach 8 from a fellow forum member.
What a great instrument !!!
The upper range SINGS and it plays very free.
Why would they get rid of this model?

It may be great, but if it didn't sell, it probably got the axe anyway. Same as the 6, 10, 12 (more recently), 34, 45, 46...

.490 bore. Mine has a much more open blow than you’d expect from that size.

I have a Mt Vernon 8 but unfortunately it does not feel open like that, it's kind of stuffy. Probably needs a different leadpipe but I haven't done that yet.

I`ve been putting some serious time in on the 8.
I love it !!
The upper range is free and easy.
The one thing that has truly shocked me is that the pedal register is HUGE.
As with a lot of my smaller Bachs it`s n Lt8G. I like the gold brass bell sound

Baileyman has a 9 that he likes a lot. It's a dual bore. I think the 8 was felt too close in bore to the 12 (0.490 vs. 0.500) and they didn't need to keep two models so close in specs.

Three 8's. A 9. Two 12's. Two 16's. Two 16M's. Three 6's and extra slide. A 36, 42 and 50b. I spend most of my time on a NY8. Why? It's the one on the stand.
I believe the 8 is .490 and the 9 .485 by .495. I think the 16's are .495 by something. Some day I may make a 10 with two small side 16 tubes.

16 is the dual bore, 0.495 x 0.509. The 16M is single bore 0.509.

The 9 is .485/500. The 8 is .490.
I really liked that 8, glad it found a good home!! The 9 is next on the chopping block...too many horns, not enough closet space.

That's also my experience with my 7" bell NY Bach 8. Plays bigger than it looks, super solid core to the sound. My dad traded a reel to reel recorder for it around 1972, so I don't think I'll ever sell it. The sound cut through my HS marching band from what I was told. Plays great.

I bought my 8 in a pawn shop in New Orleans for $350 and love it. It was hanging on a peg with a bunch of junk horns. I put $200 into dent work and fixing the neck that somehow got out of alignment (probably got stepped on) Turned out to be a great purchase.

About the Bach 8,
I have two, a corporation and a NY.
Don't buy them, these peashooters are too small to be used as anything but lamps! The sound is tiny and thin; you should all be playing .525 bore or larger, especially for lead/high register playing. Small-bore Bach trombones aren't being made anymore because they were only popular in the '30s, '40s, and '50s before the era of good trombone playing that came later with the Bach 42 and the 5G! In fact, you should probably contact me if you have one and let me dispose of it for you. You don't want it ruining your playing or reputation!

Stop talking about the Bach 8 being so good; you are ruining it for those of us who know the secret!! :D Pretty soon, the prices will go up, and the few out there will disappear!
