Hey guys,
There are a lot of discussions around trombonechat and the old forum on Facebook, and I'd like to make a post there and set the record straight about who we are, what we're doing, and why the TTF is probably dead in the water. I had a long chat with Todd Jonz when we founded the forum over here, and he gave me lots of background on older efforts to create a lifeboat or wrest control from Richard Byrd.
If you're amenable, I'd like to write something up and get it out there publicly so we don't look like a fly-by-night replacement for the forum.
I do not intend to mention the plans for the TTF import here, or anything like that.
You guys on board?

I'm on board. I tend to want to be perfectly transparent bit I can understand the need for secrecy. Thanks for doing that I'll be more responsive after tomorrow

Sounds good.
I like transparency, too, but I don't want to make promises we can't keep, or set us up for legal problems. But yes, let's do that. I think it's exactly the step we need to take to make TC the natural home of TromboneChatting the world over.

here's what I posted:
Hey All,
I wanted to remind everyone that Trombonechat.com is up and running. This site was founded by myself and 2 other longtime TTF members in 2014 as a "lifeboat" in case the other forum went down. We brought along several of the moderators and prominent members and have been completely transparent with them on the site's direction and technical details so that no single person has total control over the site, thus preventing the sort of scenario we are seeing now with the other forum. We have upgraded our software to the newest stable release and are in a position to sustain a long-term forum and have some exciting content coming and solid plans for the future.
There were several organized efforts in the past to democratize ownership of the other forum, all failed at one point or another. The current owner has maintained total control of the site and told nobody any of his plans or actions, including what he did with money donated to defray the costs of running the other forum. This was discussed at length on the forum before it went down, and I have no intention to re-hash all of those arguments.
It is our goal that TromboneChat.com becomes more than just a place to go when the other forum is inaccessible. Please come by, take a look, re-engage with old forum friends, and help make TromboneChat the new home for trombone discussion on the web. Please bring any discussion about the new forum so our mods and admins can answer any questions you may have, and assist you in the transition.
Thank you,
Tyler (bubbachet)
